Results of a study on the acquisition of the field concept in physics by high school and college freshmen students, carried out under the framework of Vergnaud’s conceptual fields theory, are presented. This abstract may be abridged.
Taking into account the Theory of Conceptual Fields of Vergnaud, the cognitive activities involved by the students within a laboratory work using a simulation software are analyzed. The links would manifest themselves in the use of symbolic representations and in a partial explicitation of some meanings that would suggest the presence of some operational invariants students use to cope with situations and problems that require an acceptable scientific conceptualization.
The purpose of this qualitative-descriptive work was to identify the operating invariants in the schemes activated by students during the theoretical application of the hydrolysis concept to peptide substances.
The results will be useful for a didactic intervention to allow a meaningful conceptual development of the peptide hydrolysis concept considering the D category. However, a clear absence of scientifically accepted operational invariants was observed. However, users may print, download, or email articles for individual use. This paper discusses a research about the construction of the concepts of electric field, electric potential and related quantities, done by second year students of Mechanical Engineering at the Regional Santa Fe Faculty of the National Technological University. These results agree with Vergnaud’s theory that states that a low level of conceptualization corresponds to lower levels of explicitation of operational invariants and their representations, and predomination of procedural aspects over conceptually richer predicates.

Only two students were found in the scientifically adequate D category. Users should refer to the original published version of the material for the full abstract. The aims of the study conceptuuales to explore the links between students’ cognitive structure and the formal structure of the campod concept concepthales physics, and to describe their levels of conceptualization of such a concept. Services on Demand Journal. This low level of conceptualization correlates with poor performance in the following categories of analysis: Different situations S were used as referents; the data was collected from representational linguistic sources L used as significants, so as to identify the meaning I of the hydrolysis concept.
Research findings confirm the potentialities of Vergnaud’s theory to understand and explain the learning process of this basic physical concept.
